JOIN AN ABC COMMITTEE, GAIN BUSINESS CONNECTIONS AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
As an ABC member, you can make decisions influencing the construction industry and help shape ABC policies by being part of a committee. This is also a great way to develop your leadership skills and gain access to knowledge about the industry while networking with other industry professionals. The committees work hard and play hard at their meetings and socials. Pick the one (or more) that stands out to you!
CHAPTER COMMITTEES
Government Affairs Committee
The Chapter Government Affairs Committee members meet monthly to assist the chapter with achieving its government affairs goals to include:
- Advocacy efforts– local, state and national
- PAC and FEA Fund Raising efforts throughout the year
- Messaging to enhance the chapter’s presence in the local and state political arenas
Qualities of a Government Affairs Committee member include:
- Familiarity with and a passion for the political process
- Understanding or interest in evolving regulatory issues at the local, state, and national levels and how those issues affect the commercial construction industry
- Any member who has a desire to affect change via the regulatory and political process
Membership Committee
The Chapter Membership Committee members meet monthly to review the chapter’s membership retention and new member growth. Each committee member makes personal contact with current and prospective ABC CTX members and the committee acts as the “face” of the chapter. The committee plans and facilitates the chapter’s New/Prospective Member breakfasts and happy hours and is relied upon to act as the chapter’s business relations department.
Qualities of a Membership Committee member include:
- Great networking skills and a knowledge of the key stakeholders in the industry to include contractors, associates, and suppliers.
- High energy and a willingness to become well-versed on ABC membership benefits and value statement
Workforce/Safety Committee
The Chapter Workforce/Safety Committee meets monthly to discuss the chapter’s OSHA partnership, training and educational programming, and promoting careers in the industry to high schools and post-secondary programs.
Qualities of a Workforce/Safety Committee member include:
- Interest in and an understanding of Workforce Development needs in the commercial construction industry
- Familiarity with industry safety standards and a desire to develop quality programming that will help to improve our Members’ workforce safety performance
- Familiarity with or an interest in developing and cultivating relationships between the local high schools and community colleges to help them with their current educational offerings and connecting them with the ABC members looking for skilled employees.
Emerging Leaders Group Committee
The Emerging Leaders Group Committee (ELG) members meet on a regular basis to assist the chapter with developing programs that supports the growth of the emerging leaders that are employed by ABC member companies. The programs create opportunities for emerging leaders to build relationships, expand their skills and advance their careers while shaping the future of our industry.

- Networking/recruitment
- Student Chapter Involvement
- Fund Raising Efforts throughout the year
Qualities of an Emerging Leaders Group Committee member include:
- Demonstrating potential for leadership and career growth
- Prior educational and professional achievements
- Industry vision to help enhance the ELG goals
Each committee typically meets at the ABC office during the lunch hour with lunch provided by the chapter
